Hellenic Climbing and Skiing Club of Proti
The people of Proti, as they were native Greeks from the origins dating centuries ago, always loved mountains, especially Mount Pangeo. This love urged a group of 20 people to found the club in 1983. Mount has many thinks to offer to its visitors. The variety of morphology of the mountain creates ideal paths for climbers. The 'shelter' called 'Bougatina', situated at 1200m can be reached by car and can also offer shelter to the friends of the mountain during all seasons. From Proti to Analipseos Convert there are 7 Klm of road surfaced with bitumen and from there 3 Klm of road not yet surfaced with bitumen that lead to the shelter. The ancient walls of 'Kalia' and the ancient mine higher up on the mountain give climbers the opportunity to discover unknown but important side of the history of Pangeo Analipseos Convert (18^th century), witch used to belong to Eikosifinissa' s Convent, offers the visitors at 930m, apart from the exhibition of handmaid gifts, a unique experience of spiritual upraising of mind and relaxation. As we go down the road at 600m we can watch the magnificent view of the village and the whole region from the hill where the club has created picnic- Kiosks.

The Club
The H.C.S.C. of Proti has created a group of 15 children aged 8-16 for the promotion of climbing. This team climbed up to many sites of Pangeo, planted trees at certain place, put sings in the forest urging visitors to keep it clean and protect it. At local level the club promotes climbing through lectures and shows of video on the multiple usefulness of climbing, especially to new members.

The future goals of the club are the creation of a camp as well as the protection of the natural environment. With the personal work of the club members along with the total support of Proti Municipality and Forest Inspection Service of Serres, the club: Keeps planting trees and bushes to 'naked' parts of the mountain; creates drinking - water points in the mountain; creates and puts in specific place picnic - kiosks, benches and tables for the benefit and relaxation of its members and friends.

During the celebration of 'Analipsi' the club organizes a feast at "Pouliana" every year. The H.C.S.C. has been promoted to Vitasta (part of the Municipality of Proti) aiming at the development of Aggitis gorge and creation of news groups of extreme sports(e.g. rafting, canoe Kayak, mountain bike).
